Join the Growth Association for a presentation on
An Environmental Analysis of the I—255 Corridor

This analysis provided the opportunity to look at the natural, cultural and historic features of the corridor in great detail. Natural resources add to 'quality of life' issues and are often the unspoken requirement in promoting economic development. By embracing our county’s natural resources and using them in a way to add to a development – everyone wins.

Megan Riechmann of the Southwestern Illinois Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) will present her organization’s findings which they undertook after the Growth Association’s IL255 Corridor Coalition completed the first phase of a planning effort focused on a 3 mile buffer of the completed and soon to be completed IL255 Corridor from I—270 to US 67 in Godfrey.

The Promotions Committee is a group of volunteers from our membership that promotes Growth Association programs & events and promotes the small businesses that comprise the Growth Association. These committe members perform calling campaigns to existing members to engage them in activities of the Growth Association. This committee is also responsible for planning two of our three networking events, Breakfast Connection and Total Networking.

The Ambassador Committee is a group of 36 men and women who represent The Growth Association as a public relations body. The main focus of this committee is to aid The Growth Association in maintaining our visibility in the community. The Ambassador committee provides this visibility by generously volunteering their time to attend our ribbon cuttings, ground breakings, open houses, and networking events. They volunteer to work at our special events/fundraisers which are the Annual Duck Race, Annual Dinner, Annual River Bend Golf Classic, State of the River Bend Luncheon and the Women’s Conference. This committee also assists the Membership Committee in the recruitment and retention of the membership.

Thursday, September 11th, 2008 - Young Adults Committee meeting

The Young Adults Committee is comprised of volunteers from The Growth Association’s membership and representatives from the local high schools: <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = 'urn:schemas—microsoft—com:office:smarttags' />Alton High School, Civic Memorial High School, East Alton—Wood River High School, Marquette Catholic High School, Roxana High School, and Southwestern High School. The goal of this committee is to teach students to work collaboratively with the common goal of benefiting the community at large. Students learn organizational, management and leadership skills through the process. Each year these students organize and plan a fundraiser. The proceeds from this fundraiser allow the committee to award a scholarship to a graduating high school student and donate to a charity of their choice. Committee members act as mentors for these students and offer advice in the planning and execution of their fundraiser.

The Membership Committee is made up of volunteers from the general membership. The primary focus is on membership retention and recruitment. Members of this committee perform two calling campaigns: one retention drive in April and one recruitment drive in September. Committee members also “buddy” up with new members and contact these new members monthly to engage them in activities of The Growth Association and answer any questions they have pertaining to their membership.

In an encore performance… Dawn Mushill, owner of Customer Service and Beyond, will take her fans to the next level of networking and direct her audience to master opportunities on self—branding and business branding.

The second speaker in this double feature day is Sally Roth, Upper Midwest Area Executive, Greater St. Louis President of Regions Bank. Ms. Roth will motivate the audience as she shares the Secrets of Her Success.

The Education Committee is a diverse group representing small and large businesses, all area high schools, Madison County Employment & Training and <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = 'urn:schemas—microsoft—com:office:smarttags' />Lewis & Clark Community College. Representatives from Alton Memorial Hospital, American Water, Argosy Gaming, Olin, and other companies and organizations continue their “Real World” presentations to high school students. In these presentations, Education Committee members relay personal experiences of their careers, recommend to students that they take advantage of opportunities to learn about careers at job fairs and college nights and speak to them about employer expectations. Information in the presentations is based on a Growth Association survey, with the survey focusing on the personal characteristics and education that Association members are seeking in potential employees.  The committee will continue its quest to build relationships between the schools and local employers and search for ways to partner to create a better prepared workforce.

The Awards Committee is a group of men and women who recognize a Riverbend business/organization with a monthly award for their outstanding efforts/leadership in the community. This committee solicits nominations from the community. Once the nominations are received by The Growth Association, the business/organization is sent an application to complete.
